Editor:How
did you get started in
Facilities? Erik: I worked in
manufacturing facilities when I first graduated from
college in the areas of Human Resources and Safety. When
an opportunity presented itself, I purchased the assets
of a friend of mine who was closing his construction
company. I operated my own construction company
for a number of years and subsequently was employed as a
Construction/Leasing Specialist with State Farm
Insurance. I have worked in the Administrative
Services department for State Farm in various capacities
for 14 years. Click here to read on...

A
Message from Larry Simmons,
CFM-
I
hope everyone had a joyous holiday. We want to thank the
membership for their support and encouragement for the
coming year. Under Geoff and the executive
board's leadership, the chapter has put into place a
strong strategic plan ensuring the chapter a virtual
future for its members and the facility management
profession. With an uncertain business
environment before us, the 2009 year holds challenges,
but with more challenges come opportunities. I am sure
that many members are asked to examine their facility
areas and look for ways to help the organization's
bottom line and I am sure this challenging assignment is
not really foreign to many facility managers. Click here

Three
Days At World Workplace
2008
By
Geoff Allen, CFM LEED

Wednesday:
AM - Dallas convention
center, we register, mingle, and greet first timers from
everywhere! They wear yellow ribbons, you pick them out
right away, if you see one alone it's customary to greet
them. Lots of "where you from? Are you an FM",
etc. See the gang from Nigeria
again, always smiling, some in dashikis.

Why Do
We Illuminate The Unoccupied
Darkness?
by
David Dunn, CFM

Do
you turn off the light when you are not using it? Or, do
you just leave it on? I live in Rockledge
and work in Orlando and as I traverse the fifty-two
miles to work in the wee hours of the morning, arriving
at my office around 6:00 AM, I see an unbelievable
number of closed businesses unoccupied and
illuminated! Read

Holiday
Celebration....Wine Tasting and a visit from
Steelcase "Santa"!
The
IFMA Holiday event was a great
success. The event was held at Tastings in
downtown Orlando where everyone
was able to taste many types of wine and enjoy delicious
appetizers. We had live music and even a vist from
the Steelcase Santa with his (her-Halline Hale) Ho Ho
Bag filled with gift certificates for all kinds of
goodies for all Facility managers.
